Computers at Belarusian enterprises blocked by spyware
Over the past year, more than 50 enterprises became victims of malicious software.
The Investigative Committee reports that Belarusian enterprises are increasingly becoming the victims of crimes against information security and intellectual property.
This is what Alyaksandr Makhnach, the investigator for particularly important cases of the Investigative Committee said.
Mr Mahnach: "We are talking about crimes when business entities have their 1C accounting software encrypted or deleted. In cases like that usually the entire database is encrypted or deleted. In 2014, more than 50 Belarusian enterprises - both public and private - suffered from this type of crime."
Attackers block bases via remote access or by sending a letter with a virus. Then the attackers demand that victims transfer money to the specific electronic accounts. In return, they promise to decrypt the database. In reality, the Investigation Committee staff said, even after the money is paid criminals do not always send the password to unlock the data.
According to experts, 90% of virus attacks originate in Ukraine or Russia.
