London tube: 24-hour strike begins
The trade unions demand to increase workers’ wages. The underground administration is refusing to do it.
Another 24-hour strike has started in the Tube. It is the second strike since the beginning of July. The trade union and the underground administration have not reached any agreement again.
The strike began on Wednesday evening and will continue until Thursday evening. The other means of public transport are working as usual or more, BBC reports.
The trade unions demand to increase the wages in connection with the fact that some of the London underground lines will start working at night on Fridays and Saturdays. Workers will have additional night shifts without any overtime pay. The underground administration has suggested increasing the wages by 2% to compensate for it this year. Mayor of London Boris Johnson said that he was not going to allocate any extra money for the tube employees.
