Authorities seize legally possessed arms ahead of Lukashenka's visit to Brest

Legally possessed weapons are being confiscated from the residents of Brest on the eve of the 1000th anniversary of the city, local blogger Syarhei Pyatruhin wrote on Facebook.

According to the blogger, a woman from Brest received a call from a police officer who said that the safe where her husband kept his rifle had to be sealed up. When the woman replied that she was at her summer house and could not come back home, the policeman said the apartment would be sealed then until September 9 and she would not be able to enter it.

"I phoned the policeman on duty in Brest's Maskouski District and he confirmed that all smooth-bore weapons had to be temporarily confiscated and all rifled ones sealed up by 8 a.m.,” the Brester said.

The 1000th anniversary of Brest will be marked on September 6-8. The President is expected to attend the festivities.
