New detainee in riot case
Viktar Maroz, director of a Minsk-based distribution firm, has been detained in connection with the investigation into the 'riot case', reports Radio Svaboda. On the evening of April 3, his father received a phone call from a KGB agent who said the son had been detained for three days. The man, like other detainees, is suspected of attempting to organize a riot.
In his youth years, Maroz was a member of White Legion, a pro-Belarus independence patriotic organization that was dissolved long ago. Special services in Belarus have opened a hunt for its former members in connection with the riot case.
Some 30 people were arrested in this riot case. Ten out of them have been charged with training or preparing others to take part in a riot. The list of ten includes Miraslau Lazouski, Zmicier Dashkevich, Siarhei Palcheuski, Ivan Kavalchuk, Yauhen Paltarzhytski, Siarhei Strybulski, Aliaksei Abramau, Ales Yaudakha, Uladizmir Rumiantsau and Andrei Bialiauski. They face up to three years in prison.
