Belarus singer's murderer still at large in Ukraine
Two months after People's Artist of Belarus Yakau Navumenka's death, Ukraine's police don't even know murderer's name.
Yakau Navumenka was severely beaten on August 19. A week later, the People's Artist of Belarus died in the Ukrainian hospital, without regaining consciousness.
Press Secretary of Sevastopol Prosecution Valery Yastremski has told Euroradio about the terrible trauma of the artist and the way he was killed first.
Sevastopol police are investigating the murder. The prosecutor's office controls the process. We ask Valery Yastremski what has been done by present moment.
Valery Yastremski: "They interrogated a large number of witnesses, examined the crime site. Unfortunately, I cannot report on all the activities that had been carried out, due to the secrecy of the pre-trial investigation. You know, if the murderer hears us he will build his defense on the basis of this information”.
Euroradio: So, have they arrested the murderer?
Valery Yastremski: "No, they have not. They are taking measures to ascertain the identity of the culprit and to detain him. "
Sevastopol police reported the murder of Yakau Navumenka only on August 27, when the tragedy got into the Belarusian and Ukrainian media. The police began to look for witnesses and widely "requested assistance" only on August 28 - nine days after the crime. No wonder they failed to catch the criminal in hot pursuit.
"Distinguishing characteristics of the murderer are being clarified and updated", — representatives of the Ukraine's Interior Ministry in the city of Sevastopol told Euroradio.
So, it turns out that the name of Yakau Navumenka's murderer is still unknown and the investigation of the criminal case proceeds slowly.
