Tankachova’s case to be reconsidered today
She is a Russian citizen but has lived in Belarus for about 30 years. Her daughter was born and lives in Belarus.
The case of the head of the Legal Transformation Centre Alena Tanckachova will be considered in Minsk Pershamaiski District Court today. Her residence permit was annulled at the end of October. She was accused of administrative violations – speeding while driving. The police will decide whether the human rights defender will have to leave Belarus now, RIA Novosti reports.
The Russian President’s Council for development of the civil society and human rights asked the Russian MFA to help Alena Tankachova. The Council believes that the real reason for the deportation of the Russian citizen is her human rights activities.
