6 candidates’ trustees deprived of registration
All of them are members of opposition Belarusian Popular Front from Brest.
The city election commission announced it on March 19. The commission did have the right to deprive the trustees of the registration, independent observer Uladzimir Vyalichkin who was present at the meeting said.
Vyalichkin: “They were deprived of their registration for having violated part 4 of article 76 of the Election Code. It clearly says that other candidates cannot be a candidate’s trustees.”
It was just a technical mistake, head of Brest BPF affiliate Dzmitry Shymanski told Euroradio. The party members were unaware of the law forbidding candidates to be trustees, the candidate said.
However, the election commission decided to take revenge on the BPF party this way, the Brest politician thinks. The party proposed seven candidates in the city but the only six were officially mentioned by the commission. The party lodged a complaint about it.
