'Mothers 328' activists gather near parliament (photo, video)

Activist of the Mothers 328 movement on Tuesday gathered in front of the parliament, where MPs began their spring session. The women are putting pressure on the legislators to consider making amendments in Article 328 in the Criminal Code, which deals with drug trafficking. Under the proposed draft amedments, the maximum term of imprisonment under paragraphs 2 and 3 of this article may be reduced by 2 years. The draft was sent to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Supreme Court earlier. Today, the activists tried to obtain explanations from the speaker of the House of Representatives Uladzimir Andreichanka. At the end of the fall session, the lower chamber of the parliament postponed the discussion of the amendments to Article 328.

“The draft will arrive at the House of Representatives when the MPs are scheduled to discuss the anti-doping law in the second reading. It is supposed to be discussed by the end of the session together with the amendments to Article 328. It means that the Council of the Republic will not be able to approve the amendments during this session and the President will not sign them. The approval of the amendments will be postponed for six more months. We would like to accelerate this process and find out who is in charge of discussing the amendments to Article 328 in the House of Representatives. We fear that another delay may be forced,” activist Liyana Shuba told Euroradio.
