Blue Moon diamond sold for $48m (photo)
The 12.03-carat diamond called “Blue Moon” has been sold for 48 million dollars at a Sotheby’s auction in Geneva. The auction took 7 minutes. The rock was bought by a Hong Kong collector who immediately renamed it “Blue Moon of Josephine”.
This is a record price for a diamond (the previous record was $46 million). The diamond was discovered in South Africa in January 2014. It is a blue stone in the fancy vivid category.
