Brest journalist gets Br5.4 million fine
A district court in Brest sentences freelance journalist Іna Khomich to a fine for cooperating with a foreign media without accreditation.
Independent journalist Ina Homich has been fined for 30 base amounts (Br 5.4 million). Brest's Maskouski District Court pronounced the decision on April 1.
The reason for the administrative case was a publication made by Ina on the website of the Belarusian Radio Racija (Poland). The journalist wrote about the opening of a local Museum of Bread in the village of Motyl, Ivanauski District.
Ina Homich did not refute the fact that she was a freelancer in court, she told Euroradio.
Homich: "I did not refute that I had written the piece of news although there was no signature. My actions are allowed by the Constitution. If the Law on Mass Media does not stick to the Constitution, this should not be my problem.”
Ina Homich is not going to appeal the court’s decision because she thinks that it is senseless. She will not be able to change the decision, the journalist believes.
Brest journalist Ales Lyauchuk was fined for working without accreditation for the second time last week. He was returned guilty of cooperation with the TV channel Belsat and fined for 21 base amounts (Br 3 million 780 thousand).
