Number of pigs down by 70,000 in Belarus
The drop was registered between March and June 2013, according to National Statistics Committee.
The biggest number of pigs was registered in March – over 3 million 380 thousands. Then it started decreasing by 40 thousands in April, by 25 thousands in May and by 5 thousands in June.
However, the total number of pigs is still bigger then it was in the same period last year. But the number kept increasing the whole year except for December in 2012.
There are two nidi of African swine fever in Belarus now. The neighbouring countries have refused to import Belarusian pork. Pig livestock is being killed in many districts across the country, unofficial sources report.
