Lukashenka: Retail chains should not cash in on people's problems (video)

On January 22,  Alyaksandr Lukashenka met with Chairman of the State Control Committee, Leanid Anfimau.

As reported by BelTA, the Belarusian leader particularly stressed the need to control the growth of prices in the country: "Here we have to prevent some retail chains from cashing in on the problems of the people, but also we must not ruin the business environment. How deeply is the State Control Committee involved in such activities, and what are your feelings about this? The most important thing is to not ruin the business environment and prevent unjustified price increases. Because there are no reasons for this".

Lukashenka added that the whole world is in crisis, and thus the Belarusian businesses need to moderate their appetites: "I'm not saying that they should tighten their belts, but it is necessary to go through this time with the people".

Anfimau told the head of state that the inter-ministerial working group set up in December almost daily monitored the situation on the consumer and currency markets. According to him, now the situation is relatively stable and the State Control Committee is only monitoring it.
