Medvedev: If Ukraine signs agreement with EU, it will be out of Customs Un
The Russian PM has commented on the outcome of Kiev signing an agreement on cooperation with the EU.
“Ukraine will find it very difficult to join the Customs Union if it decides to do it,” Dmitri Medvedev said. There will be “almost zero chance” of establishing cooperation, he thinks.
Russia warned Ukraine about the necessity of all Customs Union members having the same rights and obligations, Medvedev reminded.
"An agreement like ‘Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan + Ukraine or some other country’ would not satisfy us. We want to create a full-grown Eurasian Economic Union, we do not want any amorphous association. It should be taken into account,” Interfax-West quotes Medvedev.
Ukraine is going to sign an association agreement with the European Union at the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius this year. Russia is afraid of cheap European goods penetrating the Ukrainian market after the agreement is signed. It will result in Ukrainian manufacturers’ losses, RIA Novosti reports.
