New defense minister in Ukraine (video)
The Ukraine's parliament Verkhovna Rada appoints Colonel General Mikhail Koval as a new Minister of Defense.
The Verkhovna Rada deposed acting Minister of Defence Ihor Tenyukh earlier. 228 MPs voted pro. Tenyukh wanted to be dismissed but MPs did not support it when speaker Alexander Turchinov put the question to the vote. They decided to reconsider the issue later.
Mikhail Koval, 58, was born in Izeslavl. He is a colonel-general of the border troops. He was abducted by Russian soldiers or ‘the self-defence’ in Crimea on March 5 but was released on the same day after negotiations.
