Poland honours Stanislau Shushkevich (photo)
He has received the title Doсtor Honoris Causa of the most prestigious Polish university SGH (Warsaw School of Economics) today.
Rector Tomasz Szapiro opened the ceremony. Polish President Bronisław Komorowski and ex-Presidents Lech Wałęsa and Aleksander Kwaśniewski congratulated Shushkevich.
Rectors of Poland’ s leading universities attended the ceremony. Besides being a politician who managed to bring political and economic changes to the region, Dr. Shushkevich is the author of over 150 studies, 2 textbooks and 7 monographs. He is the co-author of 73 discoveries and academic adviser of 33 theses in physics and mathematics.
It is symbolic that Shushkevcih, the person who signed the USSR collapse agreement in Viskuli, received his title Doctor Honoris Causa on the 25th anniversary of the first relatively free Polish elections.
