Exclusive photo of terrorist act defendant's arrest

The expertise recorded injuries after the arrest of terrorist act defendant Uladzislau Kavalyou on April 12. 

According to the information provided by the expertise on April 13-25, which was disclaimed in court during the Minsk metro blast trial, defendant Kavalyou had scratches on his chin, hand, forearm and knee. In the experts' opinion, the scratches were caused by a firm blunt object.

Uladzislau Kavalyou said at the preliminary investigation that he had got injured at work.  Therefore, he had these injuries before arrest.

Euroradio got Kavalyou's photo at the moment of arrest. In the photo, he is sitting on the floor in the apartment, his arms behind his back, a person in black is seen behind him. No traces of obvious injuries are seen on his face.

The defendant's mother Lyubou Kavalyova says that she doesn't see any traces of beating.

"No injuries are seen here. The face is absolutely claen. The investigation claimed that they might be beaten during the arrest, but it is seen in the photo that no one beat them then".

As for the main defendant in the metro terrorist act case Dzmitry Kanavalau, the expertise found bruises on his chest, stomach and shoulders. They appeared 5-6 days before the arrest. The experts also found 1-2 days bruises and wounds on his hip and chest. Kanavalau was arrested on April 12, and the expertise was conducted on April 13.

During the first interrogation in court, a person from the audience Natallya Pakhodnya was sitting in the first rows and saw Kanavalau well.

"I saw that his face and the whole head were swollen. He felt bad all the time. I also saw an incurvation on his arms as if they had been strongly pressed with something before. I think he might have a brain trauma. His pupils were enlarged".

Kanavalau explained at the preliminary investigation that he had been injured during the arrest. It is stated in the case materials that there had been a possibility of resistance and blast, so use of physical force against Kanavalau had been justified.
