International Day of Democracy marked on September 15
UN General Assembly introduced this holiday in 2007.
The UN General Assembly encouraged thestates-members of the UNO, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and private persons to celebrate this day with an aim of increase of the public awareness. The General Assembly's resolution confirms that there is no single model of democracy and that it does not belong to any country or region.
Democracy is not only important by itself, this is also a powerful factor which stimulates social-economic progress, helps to maintain international peace and security, and facilitates fulfillment of basic rights and freedoms.
