It became known on Monday, October 1 that former Head Coach of the track and field national team Anatol Baduyeu had been released from the KGB prison, together with the team's ex-doctor Pavel Dryneuski.

According to the information that we found on the website of the Track and Field Federation already on Tuesday, Anatol Baduyeu still holds the position of a Deputy Chairman of the Federation. Perhaps they just failed to delete this information?

We called him on his working phone. All the employees were off for a lunch break, apart from... Anatol Baduyeu. We congratulated him on the release.

"Thank you for your congrats but I am not supposed to answer any questions yet," the official replies in a reserved voice.

Euroradio: I have dialed you working number - does this mean you have got back to work?

Anatol Baduyeu: "I am working, here at my workplace".

According to preliminary information, the coach was charged with forcing a bribe and inappropriate use of sponsor funds. The arrest happened after the newspaper "Pressball" had published an article about some "killer" who forced the athletes to give bribes and promised to solve their problems with drug tests in return.

The criminal case was started approximately 2 months before the Olympics where the Belarusian track and field national team won no medals for the first time in the history of independent Belarus.

Euroradio has found out that the charges against Anatol Baduyeu and the team's doctor Pavel Dryneuski have not been dropped.

"We have changed the restraint for them to a non-leave obligation and proper behaviour," says Investigation Committee spokesperson Julia Hancharova. "The criminal case investigation is in progress."
