Yakauleuski: Lukashenka responded to Füle’s statement
Minsk's rhetoric has focused on the normalization of Belarus-EU relations since the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius.
Lukashenka’s statement about the normalization of relations with the EU is connected with it, political observer Raman Yakauleuski told Euroradio. The Belarusian leader responded to the recent statement made by European Commissioner Štefan Füle, he thinks.
Yakauleuski: "It should be considered Lukashenka’s reply to Füle’s words that the normalization is only possible after all the political prisoners are released and acquitted.”
Belarus expects the European Union to make steps to normalize the relations, the Belarusian leader said earlier today.
Yakauleuski: "Brussels says that the ball is in Belarus’ court. Lukashenka says that it is in the EU’s court… His words mean that he thinks that all the obstacles (I mean political prisoners) cannot hinder the normalization of the relations.”
Belarusian Minister for Foreign Affairs Uladzimir Makei met his Polish counterpart Radosław Sikorski not long ago, the political observer noted. The meeting was not covered by mass media but Polish diplomats set a lot of hops on it. Yakauleuski is skeptical about it. The last political thaw ended with a severe dispersal of a peaceful action in 2010, he reminded.
