Demonstrators demand to release political prisoners in Ethiopia
The manifestation has been held in Addis Ababa.
People were shouting “We need freedom!” and “We need justice!”.
It is the first big protest action held since 2005 when the police killed hundreds of demonstrators, RBK reports. It is also the first protest against the government of PM Hailemariam Desalegn. He became PM after his predecessor Meles Zenawi had died in Brussels on August 20, 2012.
The unrest of 2005 was caused by election results – the ruling party got 60% of seats in Parliament. The police used tear gas, machine guns and grenades to quell the protest.
