Lukashenka is invited to EU summit but it is not clear whether he will go there
The leader of Belarus Alyaksandr Lukashenka and the Foreign Minister of Czechia Karel Schwartzenberg have met in Minsk today. They have decided that no go-betweens are needed for the dialogue between Belarus and the European Union (Czechia is presiding in the EU now), reports BelTA. Schwartzenberg has invited Lukashenka to the summit of “Eastern Partnership” in Prague on May 7.
Let us remind you that there were arguments among EU officials about the necessity of inviting Lukashenka to Prague. There was an idea to invite the Belarusian leader on condition that he had to be represented by Foreign Minister Syarhei Martynau. Otherwise, the Netherlands promised to obstruct Alyaksandr Lukashenka at the summit.
Karel Schwartzenberg also met representatives of Belarusian democratic forces and Minister of Foreign Affairs Syarhei Martynau on Friday.
