Martin Oberg appointed Sweden ambassador to Belarus

The Swedish government has appointed an ambassador to Belarus. It is Martin Oberg, who in July 2013 was the Charge d'Affaires of Sweden in our country. Before that, Oberg worked at the Swedish Embassy in Latvia, the Congo, Finland and Russia, the press service of the Swedish Embassy in Belarus reports.

According to BelaPAN, the Swedish Embassy in Minsk was closed in August 2012, a month after the controversial "teddy bear landing." The Belarusian Embassy in Stockholm stopped working at the same time. The diplomatic conflict broke out after the Belarusian authorities did not renew the accreditation of the Swedish ambassador Stefan Erickson. He was accused of "destructive activities". For a while, the function of the Swedish Embassy was fulfilled by the diplomatic mission of Estonia.

In the spring of 2013, Belarusian authorities accredited in Minsk another Charge d'Affaires of Sweden. But the Belarusian Embassy in Stockholm never reopened.
