Maryna Adamovich: Absurdity of Yermakova's statements is obvious
Wife of ex-presidential candidate Mikalaj Statkevich contemplates on where Yermakova took the information that political prisoners do not want to be released.
Let us remind you, Chair of the National Bank Nadzeya Yermakova said at a press-conference that political prisoners did not want to be released. This is how she commented upon one of the conditions for provision a credit by the IMF - release of political prisoners.
Euroradio: Why doesn't Mikalaj Statkevich want to be released?
Maryna Adamovich: It would be funny if it wasn't so sad. It is sad that the officials in our country not only have no personal opinions, they cannot even find their own words. In fact, they repeat the words of the main employee, the main boss about political prisoners who hid like mice under a broom behind their plank beds and do not want to be released. I think that the absurdity of these statements is so obvious that it does not even require any discussions. However, frankly speaking, I think that the people who are in prisons now probably wouldn't want this kind of mercy. Like, let them sign a request for pardon and we will see. Naturally, none of them will sign such requests. These people face their own destiny as it is, and none of them is going to bow.
Euroradio: Which information from your husband reached you recently?
Maryna Adamovich: I've had no information for the last two months, apart from the ne obtained by the lawyer. There was just one positive event - Mikola met with his father last week, it was a short-term meeting.
Euroradio: The majority of political prisoners were released, while political leaders and ex-presidential candidates are still in prison. Do you think that the Belarusian side is trying to raise the ante to get a credit from the IMF?
Maryna Adamovich: I think you are right. It's like that for the people who don't know how to solve economic problems - the more time passes the higher the ante gets. Besides, some statements of the European officials were taken in a totally opposite way than they were meant to. I mean the statement of Mr. Tusk which was not a suggestion to the Belarusian government, but a suggestion to the Belarusian democratic community for the time when we have a democratic country. However, it was estimated and explained correspondingly.
