People's Referendum activists to appeal to Lukashenka
The opposition leaders behind the People's Referendum campaign want Lukashenka to set a referendum.
The House of Representatives would not discuss the proposals of the opposition.
"We waited until the last day for the decision of the House of Representatives. However, the deputies did not find the courage to even raise the issue of the referendum," said the initiators of the Popular referendum in their statement.
Currently, the campaign initiators offer everyone to turn to President Alyaksandr Lukashenka with a request to convene by the end of February an extraordinary session of parliament and to discuss there the possibility of holding a referendum.
Head of the BPF Party, Alyaksei Yanukevich, said that if the referendum is set, it will be a great victory for the opposition. Its legitimacy will be checked by the people, Yanukevich believes. He said: "If the referendum is appointed, its legitimacy will be checked by the people."
Appeal sample can be found at the Popular referendum website.
