Prison officer awarded for impeccable service despite prisoner's death
Warrant officer Vital Shamko was awarded by the Belarus president two months after Ihar Ptsichkin died in a detention center.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka awarded employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Investigation Committee “for impeccable service” on October 11. Vital Shamko, a warrant officer from the detention centre in Valadarski Street, was among the awarded people.
However, 21-year-old prisoner Ihar Ptsichkin died in the same detention centre only two months ago – on August 4. The reason for his death is still not clear. His relatives were told that he had died of a heart attack. However, they found numerous bruises and hematomas on his body and insisted on investigating the death.
The Investigation Committee started a criminal case to investigate Ptsichkin’s death at the end of September. Additional expertise will be conducted. Euroradio does not know if Vital Shamko is connected with the case. However, how can one call service in the detention centre where prisoners die “impeccable”?
