Ales Makayeu: Br5 million fine is a miracle!
The entrepreneur has been returned guilty of organizing an unauthorized meeting in Hrozava on December 1.
Civil activists marked the anniversary of Slutsk defense action on that day. Makayeu explained in court that it has not been a meeting. The witnesses also said that people pronounced no mottos - they were singing and praying.
The light sentence is a real Christmas present, Makayeu told Euroradio:
Ales Makayeu: "It is an unexpected sentence! Like a present. Many people prayed for us and I did not even expect it... It is like a Christmas present. Some miracle... A report about my last year's 10-day arrest was added to the case papers. So, it was a repeated violation. But they only fined me - this is good news."
He will most likely try to appeal the sentence, Makayeu says.
