EU ambassadors return to Minsk, Belarusian ones - to Warsaw and Brussels
Head of the Swedish diplomatic mission Stefan Eriksson returned to Minsk first.
Ambassador of Sweden Stefan Eriksson returned to Minsk on April 25. He became the first ambassador of the EU, who arrived in Belarus after the start of the "diplomatic war". The head of the Swedish diplomatic mission went to work immediately after return. Eriksson's assistant has explained why the ambassadors of Poland and the EU - Leszek Szerepka and Maira Moora respectively – did not come to Minsk first, as it was announced earlier.
Embassy of Sweden: "The decision to return ambassadors is a pan-European decision, adopted by all EU states. This decision was made on all ambassadors at once. After that, practical issues (concerning the date of return- Euroradio) started, like, who lives closer, who will take a plane, or a car, or a ferry. You see, these are just practical issues. "
Let us remind you, on February 28 the
Belarusian authorities recalled the Ambassador to Poland and the representative
in Brussels for consultations. The Polish Ambassador and the head of the EU
representative office were asked “to return to their capitals” for consultations.
The EU member states recalled all their Ambassadors from Belarus in response to
it. After the recent release of political prisoners Andrei Sannikau and Zmitser Bandarenka the experts started predicting soon
return of the EU states ambassadors to Minsk.
Following the Swedish Ambassador, Lithuanian Ambassador Edminas Bagdonas,
Poland's Ambassador Leszek Szerepka and the head of the Italian Embassy
also returned to Minsk on April 25. Estonian Ambassador Jaak
Lensment and Czech
Ambassador Jiří Karas are expected to arrive on Friday.
"I haven't received the
final order yet. I heard it would be Friday. However, I cannot be 100% sure of
that", - the Czech diplomat has told.
They have informed in the EU representation in Belarus on April 25 that they
don't know the exact date of return of Mrs. Maira Moora.
EU representation: "Nothing is clear with regard
to the date yet. I think no one is going to announce anything beforehand. We
will be able to confirm that she arrived only after her actual arrival, but I
don't think there will be any notifications before".
In the Embassy of Slovakia, they failed to inform the exact date of return of
their ambassador Marian Servatka to Minsk. However, they assured it
would happen in the nearest days.
On
Wednesday, Belarusian ambassadors in Belgium and Poland arrived to their work
places.
"Our ambassador in Belgium and our ambassador in Poland arrived at the
place of service today " - the press service of the Belarusian Foreign
Ministry informs.
