The death toll of the October 25 blast at a wood-processing factory in
Pinsk has climbed at 14. Six more workers remain in emergency care in
Brest and Minsk.
Alexander Milinkevich on November 1 wrote a
letter to the head of the state, demanding to declare November 2 as the
day of mourning, For Freedom Movement deputy chairman Yuras Hubarevich
told ERB.
Yuras Hubarevich: "We reckon that people should
not be left alone in their grief. We are surprised to see no reaction
from the leadership of Belarus. But, we can't force the head of the
state to declare mourning. In this case, everything is in the hands of
the head of the state".
For Freedom Movement will continue drawing attention of the public to this issue, Hubarevich noted.
The
press office of Alexander Lukashenka has no information about mourning.
"We have not received this information", a press office official said
and advised to approach Brest Regional Executive Committee with this
question. However, officials in Brest told ERB that it was the head of
the state who declares mourning.
The Pinsk City Hall also said they could not declare mourning without orders from the president.
After
the blast in Pinsk, Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu proposed to open a bank account
to collect money and assist those injured and their families. "This
proposal is being implemented. It has not turned out to be very simple. I
think we will have an account opened this week", he said.
Meanwhile
in Pinsk, the local Eparchy of the Orthodox Church and Pinsk City Hall
have opened a charity account for those injured by the blast.
The
money, inflowing to this account, will be distributed by City Hall
together with Pinsk Eparchy between the families of the victims and
injured, reports sabor.by.
In its
turn, the Greens party has called on the government to inspect
immediately hazardous enterprises in order to avoid similar accidents in
the future.
The official web site of the president remains
silent over the proposed mourning. The web site reports that on November
1 Alexander Lukashenka congratulated the president and people of
Algeria with Revolution Day. The Belarusian leader assures that friendly
relations between our countries will be developed further.
