Sponsor ready to help return GDL Statute to Belarus
It took several days to raise money for the national relic.
Let us remind you that the 1588 Statute of the Great Duchy of Lithuania has been auctioned by a Moscow curiosity shop owner. The copy has been valued at 45 thousand dollars. Mahilyou history Museum has launched a charity action to raise money in order to buy the Statute. Part of the money (10%) should be raised within two weeks as a deposit. The remaining money will have to be raised within three months.
As a result, about 1000 dollars was sent to the account in two days. “A sponsor has promised to help us. As soon as we sign an agreement with him, the account will be closed. The National Bank has also offered its help to us, it wanted to attract some other Belarusian banks too”, - informs “Nasha Niva” quoting Alyaksei Batsyukou, head of Mahilyou History Museum.
Let us note that there are about 60 copies of all the three editions of the Statute in the world now. Belarus has none.
