Putin bans foreign foodstuffs import in response to sanctions
Russia's President Vladimir Putin signs a decree in response to the sanctions against Russia.
Its title in full - "On the application of certain special economic measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation," reported ITAR-TASS.
For one year the document prohibits or restricts the "foreign economic operations involving import into the territory of the Russian Federation of certain agricultural products, raw materials and foodstuffs originating in the countries that decided to impose economic sanctions against Russian legal entities and (or) individuals."
At the same time, the government should prevent rapid rise in prices of agricultural and food products.
The decree came into force on the date of its signing. As noted in the document, these measures have been taken "to protect the national interests of the Russian Federation."
