Russia urges to call off independence referendums in eastern Ukraine
Russia's President Vladimir Putin reportedly backs May 25 election in Ukraine.
Local separatists appointed the referendum on self-determination of these Ukrainian regions for May 11.
Putin has urged to postpone it. He did not suggest a new date.
"We are urging representatives of south-east Ukraine and federalization adherents to postpone the referendum appointed for May 11. It is necessary to create conditions needed for this dialogue first,” RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.
