Russia's Council of Federation approves annexation of Crimea
155 members pf Russia's Council of Federation approve annexation of Crimea and Simferopol, with no one against or abstaining.
The law can be used after the signing and will come into force after ratification, ria.ru reports.
The Crimean referendum was held on March 16. According to its organizers, over 95% of voters supported the idea of joining the Russian Federation. Ukraine, the European Union, USA and many other states did not recognize the legitimacy of the referendum.
Russia and Crimea signed the agreement on the annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol on March 18.
Vladimir Putin submitted two documents for consideration in the Parliament on March 19: the bill on ratification of the Russia-Crimea agreement and the federal bill on annexation of two new federative objects – the Republic of Crimea and the federal city of Sevastopol.
Russian, Ukrainian and Crimean-Tatar were announced the state languages in Crimea. The Crimean border with Ukraine became the Russian border.
