Swedish Migration Agency reconsiders approach to Belarusian applicants

The representative of the Belarusian People's Assembly in Sweden, Zmitser Vaserman, commented on the situation:

"We are grateful to MP Karina Ederbrink for her attention to the problems of Belarusian refugees. We are sure that the government and all political parties in Sweden share the desire to ensure a fair hearing of these cases. But the reality is different. The reasons lie not in malice, but in the lack of understanding of the scale of dramatic changes in Belarus after 2020. Our country has turned into a despotic digital tyranny, where artificial intelligence is used for total control over citizens, their activities, social networks, correspondence and even thoughts. We hope that the Migration Agency's report will address these shortcomings."

Sweden, known for its cautious approach, rarely grants international protection to Belarusians. In case of refusal, refugees are ordered to leave the country.

Recall that in August it became known about the detention in Belarus of a man who had been denied asylum by the Swedish Migration Agency. After that, Sweden launched an investigation into the decision to deport two other Belarusians.
