Symbal.by shop checked for selling 'prohibited symbols'
The police checks the opportunity to buy a white-red-white flag in the store - is the flag banned indeed?
A beat officer was dispatched to the office of symbal.by to find out about the distribution of forbidden symbols. The police was notified after the arrest of a man with the white-red-white flag during a football match in Maladzechna. The football fan said that he had acquired the historical symbols of Belarus in a symbal.by store.
"The most surprising thing was that the papers of the beat officer stated that it is a forbidden symbol, said the shop owner Pavel Belavus. I asked to see papers, according to which the flag is prohibited. I myself began to wonder whether they exist. At least I do not know anything about them. We are officially registered, and we sell this flag as a historical symbol and as the national flag of Belarus from 1991 to 1995. This fact alone makes it historic. The policeman listened to the explanation and left."
The absurdity of the situation is that such a check was held on July 27, the day in 1991 when the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Belarus was adopted.
