Traffic police officers from Slutsk are fired?
The police drove Lada to chase a drunk driver, while passengers showed obscene signs to police officers, the European Radio for Belarus has learned. The European Radio for Belarus brings you the details of how the police chased a drunk driver on March 2 when his vehicle was eventually crash-stopped by a cordone of private cars with people inside. Alexander Mendeleev, the chief of the National Traffic Police Inspectorate, described at a news conference today the actions of the police officers as unprofessional and said they were fired after this accident.
“The officials who are in charge of professional training of those who took part in the stopping, namely a deputy chief of traffic police at the Minsk's October District Police Department and the chief of the traffice police in Slutsk have been removed from their positions. The officers who participated in the stopping -- inspectors from the Slutsk Traffic Police and October District, were suspended until the end of the investigation," he said.
However, in Slutsk Traffic Police Department, nobody knows anout the resignation of their chief and officers, according to Dzmitry Semibratau, a spokesman for the traffic police department in Slutsk.
Dzmitry Semibratau: “At the moment, none of the traffic police officers at the police department in Slutsk has been fired. We have received no orders to remove our officers from their positions so far. But I don't want to say that there will be no investigation”.
Traffic police officers from Slutsk used Russia-made Lada to chase the drunk driver, overspeeding up to 180 km/h. According to Dzmitry Semibratau, this vehicle is able to achieve even a greater speed. In general, the fleet of the traffic police in Slutsk comprises 6 vehicles: two Lada-10, two Lada-9 amd two Opels.
The press secretary also told the European Radio for Belarus that during the chase, the passengers in the violator's vehicle and the driver himself were showing obscene signs to traffic police officers.
