US accuses Russia of lies and propaganda
An urgent meeting of UN Security Council, called at Russia’s request, fails to support Russia’s position on Ukraine.
His country considers the Ukraine authorities’ use of force in order to establish order in East Ukraine inadmissible, Russia’s accredited representative in the UN Vitali Churkin claimed.
The international community ‘should demand the Maidan henchmen stop waging war on their own people’, BBC quotes him. Separatists in south-east Ukraine are not terrorizing anyone while Kiev authorities are going to use the army to fight the people, Russia thinks. Churkin also refuted rumours about Russian troops gathering near the Ukrainian border and the participation of Russian agents in the escalation of the situation in East Ukraine.
Representatives of the USA, France and Australia where very categorical in their assessments of the Ukrainian crisis.
U.S. representative Samantha Power accused Russia of lying to the Security Council members. She urged her colleagues not to yield to Moscow’s propaganda and ‘not to be deceived’. The people who worked in Crimea are seizing Kramatorsk, she claimed. The only force able to conduct such a coordinated military operation on the territory is Russia, Power said.
Great Britain, France and Australia condemn Russia’s actions in Ukraine. Representatives of the states compared the situation in Donetsk to Russia’s occupation of Crimea. “The citizen soldiers in south-east Ukraine are Russian troops. We are urging Russia to stop the provocations,” the Australian representative said.
The only two countries who were cautious about making statements were Rwanda and China. The Chinese representative noted that his country was deeply concerned at the situation in Ukraine.
