Internet media may be closed down after 2 warnings
Belarus MPs approve a new media law that envisages closure of online media outlets after two warnings from the government.
The House of Representatives has approved the Law on Mass Media in two readings. 103 MPs voted pro. Minister of Information Liliya Ananich made a speech.
Information websites have become ordinary mass media and will be affected by the Law on Mass Media now. However, they will not need registration.
Information must be refuted by the same online resource that published it. It should be done within a day after the corresponding demand. The refuted information must be deleted.
The Ministry of Information is planning to impose restrictions on online mass media after two or more written warnings. Restrictions will also be imposed for the distribution of information forbidden by the law or court and disobedience to the Law on Mass Media.
The means of access restriction will be created by the Ministry of Information.
