March against Merkel’s social policy in Berlin
About 200 thousand people have demonstrated their disagreement with the federal government’s social policy.
Protest marches started at several underground stations in different
part of Berlin on Saturday. The final meeting took place in
Alexanderplatz in Berlin. The demonstration was directed against the
unemployment policy and the calculation of Hartz IV unemployment
benefits. The action’s participants also protested against the crisis
support programme for banks. Organizers of left-wing groups wanted to
start so-called “Monday demonstrations” with the same purpose a few
years ago.
The organizers have announced the beginning of “hot autumn” with protest actions all over Germany.
