MEP: New sanctions are likely to be imposed on Russia
A meeting of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs dedicated to Ukraine will be organized in Brussels on September 2.
Russian soldiers have been fighting Ukrainian troops in Donets Basin for a week but Moscow keeps refuting the fact. “Russia has already unofficially threatened to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine several times if the resistance continues,” Ukrainian Minister of Defence Valeri Geletei claimed yesterday. The West is trying to help Ukraine by imposing new sanctions on Russia.
Lithuanian MEP Gabrielius Landsbergis told Euroradio:
"We will take part in a meeting dedicated to Ukraine today. I will say that we need to impose new sanctions [on Russia]. I think that new sanctions are likely to be approved.”
The sanctions may affect ‘all military trade’ with Russia and the energy and finance sectors. These things are essential for Moscow now, the MEP noted.
