Georgian citizen attempts to hijack Belarus plane
The plane was heading from Kutaisi to Minsk on June 10 when a passenger sent a note to the pilot threatening to blow the aircraft.
A 41-year-old Georgian threatened the pilots with blasting assemblies and demanded ‘to head to a European country’. There were 32 passengers on board including 1 child and 4 crew members. The pilots reacted professionally and successfully landed the plane in the National Airport Minsk at 6.50 a.m.
Members of the KGB antiterrorist departments and the group A boarded the plane and started negotiating with the terrorist. They managed to persuade the Georgian into leaving the plane – he did it at 8.30 a.m. and surrendered to the KGB members. The passengers and pilots were allowed to get off afterwards.
A criminal case has been started against the man. It is not clear whether he really had a blasting assembly on him.
