Kubilius: No wonder that Minsk disagrees with ‘occupation of Crimea'
The former Lithuanian PM has commented on the information about Belarus’ refusal to sign the final declaration of Riga summit.
The Eastern Partnership summit started in Riga on May 21. Belarus is represented by Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei there. The text of the final declaration of the summit is one of the intrigues there. Belarus and Armenia are blocking the document due to the presence of the statement about the annexation of Crimea in the text, Reuters reported.
Former Lithuanian PM and opposition leader of the Lithuanian Seimas Andrius Kubilius has commented on the information for Euroradio:
"The interests of those who see their future in the European Unions and in the Customs Union probably differ… I am not surprised to see that Belarus and Armenia disagree with such words as the occupation of Crimea.”
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko also commented in this situation: “I believe that the whole world agrees that Crimea was annexed. If Belarus has its own position or if its position if not firm enough, it is Belarus’ problem. It is not a problem for the European Union or Ukraine.”
The Eastern Partnership summit will continue on Friday, May 22.
