Russia's Prosecutor General initiates Baumgertner's release
Yury Chaika visited Minsk several days ago, the aim of the visit wasn't informed.
According to the information provided by interfax.by with a reference to competent sources, Russia's Prosecutor General held negotiations on Uralkali CEO's case with his Belarusian colleague and the governing elite of Belarus, in Minsk. Upon the results of the negotiations, the parties came to the common decision on cooperation in the investigation of this criminal case, also basing on the materials provided by the Belarusian law-enforcement authorities. The Belarusian side found it possible to change the restraint for Vladislav Baumgertner to house arrest.
It is informed that the key problem during the negotiations lied in the perspectives of the criminal case investigation at the territory of Russia, as the subjects of the case are Uralkali key shareholder Suleiman Kerimov and a number of other Russian citizens. According to interfax.by, it was decided that Belarus would pass all the materials of its investigation to russia and the Russian law-enforcement agencies conduct their own investigation.
On September 26 it became known that Vladislav Baumgertner had been transferred from the KGB prison under the house arrest at one of Minsk apartments, rented by the KGB. The Russian businessman spent a month behind the bars.
