The unofficial Heroes’ Day is marked in Belarus on November 27. It is marked in honour of the Slutsk defense action.
The armed units mostly consisting of local peasantry decided to defend the Belarusian People’s Republic in November 1920. From 5 to 10 thousand people joined the uprising.
Clashes with Bolsheviks started on November 27. The number of Soviet soldiers considerably exceeded the number of insurgents.
Slutsk insurgents fought until the end of December 1920 and then retreated to the territory controlled by the Polish Army. Some of them became partisans and continued armed resistance against the Soviet authorities.
