Belarus bottoms Freedom of the Press report
The U.S.-based rights advocacy group Freedom House has published its annual Freedom of the Press report.
Norway and Sweden are in the first position followed by a few Western European states and the USA, Radio Liberty reports. The worst countries for journalists are Belarus, Cuba, Eritrea, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, North Korea, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. According to the reports, there are practically no independent mass media in these states. Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan “are arousing concern”, Freedom House notes. Russia is among the other authoritarian regimes oppressing the freedom of speech like China and Iran.
