Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas said in his speech to the parliament that Lithuania sees China's growing influence in Belarus as a threat. He listed the foreign policy challenges facing Lithuania, including China's strategic partnership with Russia.

"In such conditions, a unified position of EU and NATO countries towards China is important for Lithuania," the Lithuanian Prime Minister said.

The new Lithuanian government (which has many critics of Aliaksandr Lukashenka) promises to pursue an "active, constructive and predictable foreign policy" and support Ukraine until its victory.

Minsk hopes to negotiate with the new Lithuanian authorities. Vilnius believes that Belaruskali's main goal, which has filed a $12 billion lawsuit against Lithuania, is not so much compensation for damages as the complete lifting of sanctions.
