Belarus' chief ideology officer denies plan to control Internet

Usevalad Yancheuski, the Belarusian president's aide for ideology, denied reports that the government plans to impose restrictions on the Internet.

"The Internet is and will be free in Belarus, there is no reason for hysteria," he said commenting on media freedom advocates' fears in connection with a new Media Law that passed the National Assembly this summer.

He said that the government relies on persuasion and truth in its ideological practices.
