Crimean soldier accused of treason in Ukraine

The sergeant who served in Crimea has been detained while crossing the border in Dzhankoi. It is the first arrest of the kind in Ukraine, UNIAN reports.

The young man was a contract soldier in Perevalnoye before the annexation of Crimea. He phoned his mother a month ago and said that he was about to return home because he had been offered a job in Kiev. However, the sergeant has not reached Kiev or home.

The soldier was arrested for desertion when crossing the border. He is facing from 2 to 5 years of imprisonment now.

Most of Vladimir’s colleagues supported Russia. His commander also did so, the man’s mother said. She kept asking her son to leave everything behind and return home. But he did not want to leave his fellow soldiers and fiancée who was sin her fifth month of pregnancy. However, she lost the baby and Vladimir broke up with her. Then he decided to return home.

The Ukrainian government is accusing over six thousand Crimean soldiers of treason and desertion.
