Dalia Grybauskaitė: We feel responsibility for EaP member states
The Lithuanian President has urged the governments of the EaP member state to promote the development of civil communities.
same day as the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius.
Dalia Grybauskaitė: “We feel responsibility for members of the Eastern Partnership and would like to see all-round cooperation between the EaP and EU member states. We would like to cooperate in trade, border control, environmental protection and other fields. However, the most important thing is human and personal relations. I am urging our partners to keep conducting reforms and create consolidated and institutional civil communities.”
The European Union is trying to do real actions as regards the Eastern Partnership instated of simply talking, the Lithuanian President noted.
EU commissioner Štefan Füle explained what actions the EU expected from the forum participants from Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Štefan Füle: “Our goal in the Eastern Partnership is to make fair and free elections to be accepted as something ordinary, so that people would feel that they can affect those who govern them, to make the authorities respect people’s will and support a legal state. The criminal legislation should not be affected by politics and the existence of political prisoners should become a matter of days long past.”
Speaking about the actions of the EU, Štefan Füle noted that the European Commission had suggested abolishing Schengen visas for Moldova on November 27. The suggestion is being discussed in the European Parliament and European Council now. This is the result of Moldova’s ability to fulfill all the demands on its way to signing an association agreement with the EU.
