EU leaders urge all states to recognize Ukrainian election
They have announced it in a joint statement.
The European Union is ready to cooperate with the new Ukrainian President. The document urges Russia to cooperate with the new Ukrainian leader too. The statement was adopted at an informal meeting of the EU leaders in Brussels.
Businessman Petro Poroshenko won in the first round of the presidential election (in the photo). High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton congratulated him earlier. She discussed the ways of de-escalation of the crisis and stabilization of the situation in Ukraine with Poroshenko by phone.
