Former Poland's president unveils Freedom Gateway near border with Belarus
The Freedom Gateway was unveiled by Lech Walensa, Poland's former president and the legendary leader of Solidarnosc trade union in the Polish town of Kobyliany near the border with Belarus. The monument contains the fragments of the Berlin Wall and the bricks from the docks in Gdansk where Solidarnocs was founded.
Walensa stressed a symbolic place of the gateway on the way to Belarus. Under the concept of the designers, the monument, installed in a geographical center of Europe, reminds about the changes that led to the fall of Communism in Europe and that Europe does not end at River Bug.
